San Martin de San Juan vs Velez
San Martín SJ earned a valuable result in their last league outing, holding Belgrano to a goalless draw in a dull Matchday 8 contest. El Verdinegro sit on nine points in the Clausura after winning just one of their last six in the competition (three draws and two defeats), a run that still leaves them in the relegation places with eight rounds left in the season. On a brighter note, San Martín have collected six of a possible nine points at home so far this term.
Vélez Sarsfield earned a very valuable result in their last league match, drawing 0-0 away to Huracán last Friday after playing a man down from the 30th minute and fielding a fully rotated XI. With that, El Fortín extended their unbeaten league run to four matches (three wins and one draw) and reached 15 points in the Torneo Clausura, climbing to third place in Group B. On the road, Vélez have collected five of those points through one win, two draws, and one defeat. On Tuesday the 16th, they lost 1-0 at home to Racing Club in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals.
Velez will use a reserves lineup here after losing the 1st leg of the Copa Libertadores Quarterfinals and having to play the return leg in a few days, so I’ll trust the imporved San Martin to take a very needed win.
