Lanus vs Sarmiento
Lanús are still struggling to find their way under new head coach Mauricio Pellegrino. In round 2, they suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Rosario Central, being clearly outplayed throughout the match. The team remain without points in the Torneo Apertura, extending their winless streak in the league to three games (one draw and two losses). El Granate lost 2-0 to Deportivo Riestra in their last home match, breaking a four-game unbeaten streak at Estadio Néstor Díaz Pérez (winning two and drawing two). Right back Juan Cáceres returns after requesting a transfer, while Ramiro Carrera is still recovering from a knee sprain.
Sarmiento showed significant improvement in their second match of the year but lacked luck and had to settle for a 0-0 home draw against Godoy Cruz, even protesting a controversial disallowed goal. That was the first point of 2025 for Javier Sanguinetti’s team, which still hold the worst position in the point-average standings (excluding newly promoted teams). El Verde are on a five-game winless streak in the league (three draws and two losses) and have gone 12 matches without a victory as visitors, earning only four points out of 36 in that span.
Lanus has been quite disappointing so far but this can’t last for much longer. They have a decent team with a good attack, and having veteran Eduardo Salvio in the starting lineup should give them a boost of quality so even though they didn’t show much so far I’ll trust them against one of the worst teams in the league.
