San Martin de San Juan vs Independiente
San Martín SJ refuses to give up in their battle to stay in the top flight. Last weekend, they earned their first away win of the entire season, defeating San Lorenzo 1-0 thanks to a Diego González header in the 77th minute. El Verdinegro reached 14 points in the Torneo Clausura and snapped a five-match winless streak in the league (three draws and two defeats). However, it is still not enough to escape the relegation zone — they remain four points from safety. San Martín have collected seven points from a possible 15 at home this semester.
Independiente continues to look like one of the weakest teams of the semester. Last Sunday, they fell 2-0 at home to Lanús, with a bit of bad luck involved. The result keeps them bottom of Group B with just six points (though with a game in hand) and as the only team in the league yet to win a match in the Torneo Clausura (six draws and five defeats). Away from home, El Rojo have drawn four and lost two so far. Santiago Montiel is suspended for Sunday after being sent off against Lanús.
Independiente are the only winless team and with only 6 points after 11 rounds they can only hope that this season ends soon. San Martin would be relegated if the season finished today but they’ve improved this semester and since they are desperate for points and playing better, I expect them not to lose at home in this game.
