Argentine Primera Division: San Lorenzo vs Newell’s Odds for July 27, 2024

San Lorenzo vs Newell’s

San Lorenzo finally secured their first Liga Profesional victory last Tuesday, when beating a 1-0 away success at Gimnasia LP with Cristian Tarragona netting the winner in the first half. El Ciclon put an end to their eight-game winless streak of three draws and five defeats to make it five points in this competition (with one game in hand). At home, San Lorenzo have been winless in their last four league games, drawing two and losing two since beating Godoy Cruz 1-0 in March. The new reinforcements will finally be cleared to play on Saturday after missing a couple of games. Nicolas Tripichio and Matias Reali would start instead of Nahuel Arias and Nahuel Barrios.

Newell’s Old Boys were unlucky last Tuesday and had to settle for a scoreless home stalemate against newcomers Independiente Rivadavia. La Lepra accumulated ten points in seven Liga Profesional rounds, making it ten points after winning only one of their last four (along with one stalemate and two defeats), which leaves them out of the Copa Sudamericana zone in the aggregate table so far. Newell’s won 1-0 away over Barracas Central (at Huracan) in their last away match to stop a three-game losing streak as the visiting side. Defensive midfielder Rodrigo Fernandez and centre back Ian Glavinovich remain sidelined.

San Lorenzo finally won an away game for the first time this year and their morale is much better. They will have the debuts of two new players that joined the team recently, Tripichio and Reali which should improve their attack and will face this irregular and poor Newell’s that won’t have the important Rodrigo Fernandez in midfield, so I’ll go with the hosts to win their 2nd game in a row.
