San Lorenzo vs Lanus
San Lorenzo secured their spot in the 2024 Copa Libertadores thanks to a 2-0 home success over CA Central Cordoba in the last league round. El Ciclon made it five league matches unbeaten (two victories and three draws) to climb into fourth spot of the aggregate table. The aforementioned win also stopped an eight-game winless run of six stalemates and two losses at Estadio Pedro Bidegain. Coach Ruben Insua recruited nine new faces.
Lanus secured a ticket to the 2024 Copa Sudamericana thanks to their 1-1 away stalemate at Estudiantes in their last league game. However, they finished bottom in the Copa Liga Profesional group B and will be involved in the relegation fight this season as they hold the worst ranking in the point-average table (excluding the newly-promoted teams). El Granate are winless in their last three league games, having drawn two and lost one. On away turf, Lanus haven’t claimed any victories in the last nine, with five draws and four losses. Coach Ricardo Zielinski will miss Cristian Lema (sold to Boca Juniors) and Pedro De la Vega (MLS outfit Seattle Sounders).
San Lorenzo’s new management did a good job in the offseason securing new players that should make the team stronger this year, like playmakers Sebastian Blanco and Ivan Tapia and striker Tarragona, while I expect Lanus to be as irregular or even worse than last season especially after losing De La Vega who left the club this week to play in the MLS, so I’ll go for the home win here.
