San Lorenzo are now league leaders (alongside Independiente) thanks to a highly-celebrated 2-0 away success at Boca Juniors’ reserve squad with Gino Peruzzi and Nestor Ortigoza scoring. El Ciclon managed seven points in the first three rounds to climb into one of the Copa Libertadores’ spots in the 2021 aggregate table. In fact, the team lost only one of their last ten league matches, having won seven and drawn two. At home, San Lorenzo grabbed ten points from the last 12 on offer in league action since losing to Aldosivi 2-1 in March.
Banfield extended their unbeaten run to six league matches (three victories and three draws) last Wednesday, when beating Union Santa Fe 1-0 away thanks to a goal from Juan Cruz in the 81st minute. However, it was their first win in the Liga Profesional to make it five points in three rounds and 25 in the 2021 aggregate table to approach the Copa Libertadores’ spots.
San Lorenzo can become the only leaders with a win, and even though they haven’t played brilliant football so far, they are confident after winning the derby vs Boca and should have enough to beat this irregular Banfield at home.
