San Lorenzo – Velez
San Lorenzo put in a huge effort two weeks ago and managed to secure a very valuable goalless draw away to River Plate. El Ciclón have five points in the Torneo Clausura and remain in the Copa Sudamericana qualification zone, having lost just one of their last seven league matches (two wins and four draws in regular time). At home, San Lorenzo have won just one of their last four, with one draw and two defeats. The team lost 1-0 to Tigre last Saturday in the Copa Argentina Round of 16.
Vélez Sarsfield continue to struggle with inconsistency. Two weeks ago, they delivered a disappointing performance and had to settle for a goalless home draw against Instituto. El Fortín have collected five points so far in the Torneo Clausura, leaving them just two points above the relegation zone, despite losing only one of their last six league matches (three wins and two draws). On the road in this competition, Vélez have won just one of their last four, with one draw and two losses.
Both have been very irregular in the first weeks of this season but while San Lorenzo is focused and fully fit for this game, Velez will miss key midfielder Agustin Bouzat and next Tuesday they have a huge Round of 16 Copa Libertadores game at Brazil, so I’ll go with the hosts here.
