Rosario Central’s two-game winning streak in league action came to an end last Sunday, when the side succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat to Estudiantes. Therefore, Cristian Gonzalez’s men remain on 15 points in group A, trailing fourth-placed San Lorenzo by three with two rounds to go. The loss also put an end to El Canalla’s eight-match unbeaten run of five victories and three draws at Estadio Gigante de Arroyito in this competition.
After two victories and three draws, Newell’s Old Boys succumbed to their first league defeat since coach German Burgos’ arrival. It was last Monday, when the side were beaten by Gimnasia LP 2-1 away. As a result, La Lepra remain on ten points in the Copa Liga Profesional, occupying tenth spot in group B. On away turf, Newell’s managed five of those points, as a product of a single victory, two stalemates and three losses.
Huge derby, the most important game of the season for both teams and one they can’t afford to lose. Rosario Central has a tiny chance of advancing to the playoffs while Newell’s has no chance so I think this should be a tight game where both will prefer not to lose.
