Rosario Central – Gimnasia
Rosario Central are going through an irregular moment. Last Monday, the team showed a terrible performance and returned home empty-handed following a 2-0 away defeat at Velez Sarsfield under interim boss German Rivarola. As a result, El Canalla managed four points in as many games in the Liga Profesional after winning one, drawing one and losing two in the context of a poor season. On a positive note, Central are on five home matches unbeaten, having won three and drawn two since losing to arch-rivals Newell’s Old Boys in March. New coach Carlos Tevez will make his debut at Rosario Central on Friday.
Gimnasia LP are flying high at the moment. Last Monday, the team played in good style to beat Racing Club 3-1 at home in an entertaining match. El Lobo accumulated eight points from 12 on offer in the Liga Profesional (two behind leaders Newell’s Old Boys) and extended their unbeaten streak to eight league games (six victories and two draws). As a result of this positive run, Nestor Gorosito’s men are sixth-placed in the 2022 aggregate table, near the Copa Libertadores spots. On away turf, Gimnasia haven’t lost any of the last five, winning three and drawing two since March, when they lost at River Plate 4-0.
Carlos Tevez will debut as Rosario’s coach and I don’t expect much from him, at least not really fast because he doesn’t have a lot of talent in this team. He will face this tough Gimnasia and I think the visitors should take advantage of a team that is struggling at the moment.
