Rosario Central – Colon
Rosario Central new coach Leandro Somoza had a disappointing debut at the club as his team ended up losing 2-0 away at Tigre last Sunday, when they could have suffered a heavier rout. El Canalla made it three consecutive defeats in the Copa Liga Profesional and five across the last six games (along with a single win). As a result, the team are occupying the penultimate spot in group B with seven points. Furthermore, Central are now on three losses in a row at their own stadium: they were beaten by Godoy Cruz, Barracas Central and Newell’s Old Boys consecutively.
Colon extended their winless streak to four league matches (two draws and two defeats) last time out, when they succumbed to a 3-1 home loss to Aldosivi. Following this negative run, El Sabalero have been displaced from the playoff spots in group B as they now remain on 12 points, trailing fourth-placed Aldosivi by one. Five of those points were claimed on away turf as Colon registered one victory, two draws and one defeat in this competition so far. On Tuesday, Colon won 2-1 over Penarol from Uruguay at home in a Copa Libertadores group match.
Rosario Central has been awful lately but this terrible run has to end at some point, and Colon’s coach Julio Falcioni will feature a completely alternative XI ahead of next Tuesday’s Libertadores game away at Cerro Porteno in Paraguay so this looks like a good opportunity for the hosts.
