River vs Tigre
Even though coach Marcelo Gallardo fielded a completely alternative XI, River Plate still had enough to beat Platense 2-1 at home. Holding a three-match unbeaten streak in the Copa Liga Profesional (two victories and one draw), El Millonario finished the group stage in second spot of the group A table on 29 points, one behind leaders Racing Club. The team also are on three without defeat at their own stadium in this competition, winning two and drawing one since losing to arch-rivals Boca Juniors 1-0 in March. Striker Matias Suarez continues to recover from a muscle problem.
Tigre ended up qualifying for the quarter-finals despite their 2-0 home defeat to Boca Juniors last Saturday thanks to Huracan’s loss to Independiente away. In fact, the team finished the group stage in third place of the group A table with 20 points even though they have been winless in the last four league games, drawing one and losing three in that spell. On a sorry note, El Matador are on five away matches without a win since beating Barracas Central in round three (two stalemates and three losses). Coach Diego Martinez has a full squad to choose from on Wednesday.
Even though I think River should advance here, I don’t trust their defense and with such a big spread I prefer the OVER because I can see Tigre scoring here.
