River vs Sarmiento
River Plate’s new head coach Eduardo Coudet enjoyed a happy debut at the club. On Thursday night, his team showed improvement and defeated Huracán 2–1 away from home with goals from Sebastián Driussi and Gonzalo Montiel. As a result, El Millonario extended their unbeaten run in the league to three matches —two wins and one draw— and moved up to 14 points in the Torneo Apertura, climbing to fourth place in Group B.
Sarmiento rose to the occasion on Tuesday night when they hosted one of Argentina’s giants, Racing Club, although they ultimately had to settle for a goalless draw despite playing with a man advantage for around half an hour. El Verde continue to produce an inconsistent campaign. They have won just one of their last five league matches —along with one draw and three defeats— and have collected ten points from nine games in the Torneo Apertura, which keeps them in 28th place in the relegation averages table. Away from home, Sarmiento have taken just two points from the last 18 available.
River showed signs of life on coach Eduardo Coudet’s debut so even if they were not brilliant, i can’t imagine them failing to win at home against Sarmiento who are one of the worst away teams in the league.
