River vs Gimnasia
River Plate fans will have felt gutted after the team’s 2-2 away stalemate at Velez Sarsfield as Marcelo Gallardo’s men conceded the equaliser in stoppage time. As a result, El Millonario are now on three league games without a win (taking a single point from nine available in that span) and, having earned nine points in the Liga Profesional, they remain out of the Copa Libertadores berths in the 2022 aggregate table. At home, River managed four points from nine on offer as a product of one victory, one draw and one loss in this competition.
Gimnasia LP produced a poor performance last Saturday and ended up drawing 0-0 at home against Colon in an uneventful match. El Lobo wasted the chance of climbing into the top of the league table and they are now on 15 points, trailing the four leaders by one, after securing only one point from the last six available and failing to score in both games. However, the team lost only one of their last 12 league games (winning eight and drawing three), which places them third in the aggregate table, currently qualifying for the 2023 Copa Libertadores.
River is far from the team they were not long ago as they still have to adapt to play without some important players that left, and they should have a tough job here against this solid Gimnasia.
