River vs Boca

River Plate silenced their critics and headed into the Superclásico in top form. In Matchday 14, El Millonario delivered a dominant performance, defeating Gimnasia LP 3-0 away from home to secure their spot in the playoffs. Unbeaten in their last six league matches (two wins and four draws), Marcelo Gallardo’s side sits third in Group B with 25 points. At home, River have recorded four wins, two draws, and one loss in the Torneo Apertura. On Wednesday, April 23, River drew 2-2 at Independiente del Valle in Ecuador for Matchday 3 of the Copa Libertadores. Paulo Díaz remains sidelined due to injury.

Boca Juniors remain in fine form in the league. Last weekend, Fernando Gago’s team secured a 2-0 home win over Estudiantes thanks to goals from Carlos Palacios and Miguel Merentiel, strengthening their position as clear leaders of Group A after winning nine of their last ten league matches (with just one loss). Even if of course both need to win, neither will see a draw as a bad result: Boca would almost secure the 1st place of the group, while River would jump to the 3rd place of theirs. Boca are not brilliant but they’ve been solid lately, River has been too irregular to consider them as big favorites, so I like these odds for the visitors not to lose.
