River Plate vs Boca Juniors
River Plate played enjoyable football last Sunday, when they thrashed Gimnasia LP 4-0 at home to remain as one of the group A leaders on 13 points (alongside Union Santa Fe and Defensa y Justicia). In fact, Marcelo Gallardo’s men are now on five league matches unbeaten, having won four and drawn one after succumbing to a loss in the season opener. El Millonario lost only one of their last 15 home matches in domestic action, having claimed 11 successes and three stalemates in that time.
Boca Juniors showed a promising performance last Sunday and managed to beat group B leaders Estudiantes (undefeated beforehand) 1-0 away thanks to a goal from Luis Advincula. El Xeneize returned to the qualifying spots accumulating 11 points, having registered three victories, two draws and a single defeat in the Copa Liga Profesional. Sebastian Battaglia’s men have been unbeaten in their last four away matches in league action, having claimed two victories and two draws in that spell. Captain Carlos Izquierdoz succumbed to a foot injury at Estudiantes and will miss the Superclasico. On the other hand, Dario Benedetto and Oscar Romero are expected to be available after overcoming their respective injuries.
I expect goals in this Superclasico between two very good attacking teams.
