Racing vs Gimnasia
Racing Club had a rough year last term, but they collected six points from the last nine on offer to clinch a ticket to the Copa Sudamericana. In fact, the team won the last two at home over Lanus and Godoy Cruz. Coach Fernando Gago has six new players at his disposal, including Edwin Cardona (from Boca Juniors), Facundo Mura (Colon) and Emiliano Insua (Aldosivi).
Gimnasia LP produced a worthy campaign in 2021, but a sorry streak of three winless games (two draws and one loss) at the end of the season prevented them from qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana. On a positive note, El Lobo lost only one of their last seven away games, having won four and drawn two. Cristian Tarragona (who arrives from Velez Sarsfield) and Ramon Sosa (Olimpia, Paraguay) are the most relevant signings for coach Nestor Gorosito in a total of four while star player Luis Rodriguez left the club to join Colon among six departures.
They both lost important attacking players during the offseason, so I can’t imagine anything but a tight game here.
