Racing v Defensa y Justicia
Racing Club are virtually out of the fight for the title following their devastating 1-0 away defeat to Velez Sarsfield two weeks ago, when they conceded the winner just four minutes before the final whistle. Winless in their last three league games (one draw and two defeats), La Academia remain on 25 points, now trailing their last opponents by 11. In fact, they also are out of the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the aggregate table, trailing fourth-placed Godoy Cruz by three. On a positive note, Racing won six and drew three of their last ten at home in this competition, losing only once in that time.
Defensa y Justicia returned to winning ways last time out in the context of a hectic season. A 2-1 home success over Rosario Central (with Juan Miritello netting a brace) allowed them to stop a three-game winless streak of one draw and two defeats in league action. El Halcon made it 15 points in 17 Liga Profesional rounds to approach the Copa Sudamericana zone in the aggregate table (now trailing the last qualifying berth by four points). Defensa are without a win in their last nine domestic matches as the visiting side, drawing two and losing seven in that time. Playmaker David Barbona is available after several months on the sidelines due to a knee injury.
After losing against Velez in the last round, Racing’s efforts are now in Copa Sudamericana where next Thursday they will play the 1st leg of the semifinals at Brazil. Striker Roger Martinez is injured and although they are a good attacking team, in 5 of their last 8 games they couldn’t score so considering Defensa will be more than happy taking a point, I’m going with the UNDER here.
