Racing – Defensa y Justicia
Racing Club new coach Fernando Gago didn’t have the best debut: his team showed an uneventful performance and ended up losing 2-1 in a six-pointer regarding the continental tickets. La Academia continue producing a poor campaign, accumulating 23 points in this competition after three winless games (one draw and two defeats). The side continue occupying one of the Copa Sudamericana spots, but they should improve soon to keep it. To make matters worse, Racing couldn’t win any of their last five matches at home, drawing three and losing two.
Defensa y Justicia are going through an excellent form. Last Saturday, the team claimed a hard-fought 2-1 home success over Platense thanks to a goal from Raul Loaiza in the 81st minute. El Halcon are on five league matches unbeaten (having won four and drawn one of those). Therefore, they accumulated 28 points in the Liga Profesional and also approached the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table (trailing Argentinos Juniors in tenth place by three points). On a sorry note, Defensa managed a single win on away turf in this competition, along with five draws and three defeats.
Defensa has scored at least once in their last 6 games, Racing is playing more attacking football with new coach Fernando Gago, so I expect an open game here.
