Racing Club vs Newell’s 

 

Racing Club succumbed to their first defeat in the Liga Profesional last Sunday, when losing the city derby against Independiente 1-0 away. They wasted the chance of becoming league leaders and now the team remain on eight points, three behind their arch-rivals. Furthermore, the loss dropped them out of the Copa Libertadores’ places in the aggregate table. Coach Juan Antonio Pizzi left the club a day after the game.

Thanks to Ignacio Scocco’s strike in the 86th minute, Newell’s Old Boys managed a hard-fought 1-0 home success over Platense last time out. As a result, they made it three matches without defeat (two victories and one draw) to accumulate ten points in five rounds and climb into third spot in the Liga Profesional’s table.

Racing lost their big derby, their coach is gone and they’ve been playing bad lately so this tough Newell’s should be a problem for them.
