Platense vs Belgrano
Platense put up an excellent fight away at league leaders last Sunday, but they returned home empty-handed following an unlucky 2-1 loss. That result represented their fifth defeat across the last seven matches in Liga Profesional action, alongside a single victory and one draw. Therefore, El Calamar remain on 20 points in 17 rounds this term, still unable to climb out of the relegation zone in the point-average table (trailing Banfield and CA Central Cordoba, who are safe, by four points). On a positive note, Platense suffered only one loss across their last six at home, winning three and drawing two.
Belgrano had to settle for a 1-1 home stalemate in a heated derby against Talleres last Sunday despite having taken the first lead through a goal from striker Pablo Vegetti. Even though El Pirata claimed a single victory across their last four matches in league action (along with one draw and two defeats), they are performing quite better than the fans’ expectations: they accumulated 28 points in 17 rounds after promotion, occupying one of the continental places in the Liga Profesional table. On a sorry note, Belgrano are on two consecutive losses on the road, having lost to Independiente and Boca Juniors (both 2-0).
