Platense produced a worthy performance last Tuesday, but they ended up losing 2-1 at league leaders Talleres in an entertaining game. That means they are now level with Huracan and Sarmiento in the points average table, only above Aldosivi. At home, Platense grabbed five points in as many games in this tournament, registering one victory, two stalemates and two losses.
Argentinos Juniors had to settle for a 1-1 home stalemate against Patronato in an intense game last Wednesday. As a result, the team extended their winless streak to four league matches (two draws and two defeats since beating San Lorenzo 1-0 away in round seven). In the context of an irregular campaign, El Bicho accumulated 14 points, which means they can’t approach the continental spots in the 2021 aggregate table. On away turf, Gabriel Milito’s men took six points in as many matches, having won one, drawn three and lost two. First-choice goalkeeper Lucas Chaves succumbed to a tibia and fibula rupture against Patronato and will remain sidelined for several months.
Big derby, specially for Platense that spent so many years in the 2nd division, so even if they are not exactly the most reliable team I have to expect that they will play this like a final and can at least get a draw at home.
