Argentine Primera Division: Platense – Barracas Central Odds for August 16, 2024

Platense – Barracas Central

Platense are experiencing trouble at the moment. Last Sunday, the team conceded two late strikes and ended up losing 2-0 away at Instituto. That result represented their third defeat across their last four league games, along with a single win in that spell. El Calamar remain on 11 points in ten Liga Profesional matches, dropping down to the 20th spot of the aggregate rankings. In fact, the side are going through a two-match losing run at Estadio Ciudad de Vicente Lopez, having lost to Velez Sarsfield and Banfield without even scoring.

Barracas Central fans will have felt frustrated last time out as the team drew 1-1 against Talleres as hosts at Huracan after conceding the equaliser in the 84th minute. El Guapo extended their winless streak to nine Liga Profesional matches, drawing four and losing five in that spell. As a result, Alejandro Orfila’s men accumulated seven points in ten rounds, which prevents them from approaching the continental spots in the aggregate table. Furthermore, Barracas secured just two points across the last 12 on offer as the visiting side. Goalkeeper Sebastian Moyano remains sidelined after succumbing to a knee problem shortly before the last league game.

I’m going to trust Platense here despite their recent bad run. They played a good game at Instituto and even a better one against Banfield a week before but they’ve haven’t been accurate in attack and paid for it. Here they will face an even weaker rival like this Barracas, who doesn’t have their starting goalkeeper Sebastian Moyano, defender Facundo Mater and striker Lucas Brochero, so it looks like a good opportunity for Platense to recover from this bad streak.
