Newell’s vs Velez

After their good campaign in 2022, Newell’s Old Boys produced a decent performance in their season opener and registered a 2-2 away stalemate at Platense in a thrilling match that represented coach Gabriel Heinze’s debut at the club. La Lepra held their standard up: they lost only one of the last seven league games, winning three and drawing three in that spell.

Velez Sarsfield were one of the best teams in the Argentine season opener: they beat Gimnasia LP 3-1 at home showing an enjoyable display of football. Therefore, Alexander Medina’s put three points on their tally to dream of a better campaign in 2023. El Fortin made it four victories across their last five league matches (along with a single defeat in that spell). On a sorry note, Velez have been winless in their last 14 domestic commitments on the road, drawing six and losing eight since beating Colon 2-1 in May.

Both looked good in attack as expected in the 1st round scoring 2 and 3 respectively and I expect this to continue in this 2nd round when two attacking football coaches meet.
