Newell’s vs Patronato
Newell’s Old Boys were able to celebrate their first win of the season last Monday, when they took down Lanus 3-1 away with Jeronimo Cacciabue netting a brace. After breaking a ten-game winless run in league action (four draws and six defeats), La Lepra made it seven points this season. On a sorry note, they took only two points from the last 15 available at Estadio Marcelo Bielsa since beating CA Central Cordoba 3-1 in December 2020.
Patronato played their best match in the current season last Sunday, when they thrashed Gimnasia LP 4-1 at home. It was their second consecutive victory to make it six points. The team remain bottom in group B but left the last spot of the points average table, leapfrogging Sarmiento and levelling Godoy Cruz. On a sorry note, Patronato are yet to earn points on away turf this term, having lost to Talleres, Defensa y Justicia, Atletico Tucuman and Lanus.

Newell’s finally broke the spell and won their first game of the season, and now I think it’s time for them to get their first one at home against a Patronato that will have missings due to covid infections.
