Newell’s vs Boca
Newell’s Old Boys left good impressions in coach Mariano Soso’s debut. Last Monday, they secured a valuable 0-0 away stalemate at Atletico Tucuman, even deserving a bit more. However, La Lepra are producing a terrible campaign, accumulating 25 points in as many matches after winning only one of the last eight (along with two draws and five losses in that spell). Newell’s won 2-1 over Independiente in their last home match after three without a win at Estadio Marcelo Bielsa (drawing one and losing two).
Boca Juniors took a big step towards securing their ticket to the 2025 Copa Libertadores last Sunday, when beating Gimnasia LP 1-0 at home thanks to a strike from Milton Gimenez in the first half. El Xeneize made it five league matches unbeaten (winning four and drawing one) to accumulate 38 points in the Liga Profesional. As a result, Fernando Gago’s men remain fifth-placed in the aggregate table and will clinch at least that spot in the event of earning three points here. On a sorry note, Boca won only one of their last 11 away domestic games, along with five stalemates and five defeats. Centre back Marcos Rojo is suspended for Sunday after reaching the yellow-card limit.
Even though Newell’s are far from reliable, they looked better under their new coach so I want to trust them here against this poor Boca that has been awful when playing away this year.
