Newell’s vs Argentinos Jrs
Newell’s Old Boys showed a disappointing performance last Saturday and had to return home empty-handed following a 1-0 away defeat at newly-promoted side Belgrano in a hard-fought game. That result represented La Lepra’s second consecutive loss in this competition and means Gabriel Heinze’s men remain on 18 points, dropping down to 13th spot of the Liga Profesional table. On a positive note, 13 of those points were claimed at Estadio Marcelo Bielsa where Newell’s registered four victories, one draw and one defeat in domestic action this season.
Argentinos Juniors played below their fans’ expectations last Monday and succumbed to an unexpected 4-2 home defeat to Gimnasia LP in an entertaining game. Following that result, El Bicho claimed a single victory in their last four league matches, along with one draw and two defeats in that spell. As a result, they remain on 18 points, dropping out of the Copa Sudamericana places. Gabriel Milito’s men are on three away matches without a win in this competition, having drawn two and lost one.
Both have midweek games and are expected to rest some of their regulars here, but while Newell’s won at Racing with their mixed lineup two weeks ago, Argentinos looked tired on Monday in their defeat vs Gimnasia. Newell’s has been very strong at home so I’m going with them to at least not lose here.
