Newell’s – Union
Newell’s Old Boys showed a disappointing performance in their last league game and settled for a scoreless away draw at relegation candidates Sarmiento in a boring match. As a result, La Lepra are now on 27 points, dropping out of the Copa Sudamericana places despite having lost only one of their last six games in this competition, along with two triumphs and three stalemates. At home, Newell’s have been unbeaten in their last three domestic encounters, winning two and drawing one without conceding. On Tuesday 6, Newell’s won 2-1 away at Santos in Brazil in a Copa Sudamericana group game.
Union Santa Fe continue to improve game after game under recently-appointed coach Sebastian Mendez. Last time out, the team secured a massive 2-0 home victory over Gimnasia LP thanks to goals from Jeronimo Domina and Bryan Castrillon. It was their third consecutive success in league action without even conceding, and El Tatengue made it 18 points (with one game in hand, now sharing the relegation spot in the aggregate table with Velez Sarsfield, Independiente, Atletico Tucuman, Huracan and Banfield. On away turf, Union are on three matches without defeat, having won two and drawn one without conceding.
Union is finally improving, they are confident and I think they should be able to get something from this game that should be quite even.
