Newell’s – River Plate
Newell’s Old Boys extended their winless run in league action to five games (two stalemates and three defeats) following their 1-1 away draw at Colon in round ten. Fernando Gamboa’s men have produced an irregular campaign so far. Having managed 12 points and far away from the relegation spots and the continental tickets, La Lepra don’t seem to have big aims in the remaining league matches.
River Plate showed a great display of effort despite suffering several absences last time out, when they settled for a 1-1 home draw against Independiente. Therefore, the team are on five matches unbeaten in league action (three victories and two draws) and made it 18 points in the Liga Profesional, trailing leaders Talleres and Lanus by two. As a result of this positive run, El Millonario remain occupying one of the Copa Libertadores’ spots. On away turf, River grabbed seven points from 12 on offer, having won two, drawn one and lost one.
Newell’s is too irregular and even though River is not at their top form, they welcome back two of their best players, Matias Suarez and Julian Alvarez, so I expect them to get the win here.
