Newell’s – Platense
Newell’s Old Boys wasted a big chance of becoming league leaders last Monday, when drawing 0-0 at Patronato in a boring match. However, La Lepra have produced a decent campaign following coach Fernando Gamboa’s arrival, taking seven points in the first four rounds as a product of two wins, one draw and one defeat. Furthermore, Newell’s are on six home matches without defeat in league action, winning three and drawing three.
Platense settled for a 1-1 home draw against Independiente last Saturday. That means the team remain winless in the Liga Profesional, having accumulated only two points across the first four rounds. Therefore, the team are occupying the 25th spot of the points average table, only above Sarmiento. On away turf, El Calamar managed only one point from the last nine available since beating Banfield 1-0 in April.
Newell’s should have enough to beat this very poor Platense and jump to the top of the league at least until others play on Saturday.
