Newell’s – Lanus

Newell’s Old Boys are going through difficult times. Last Saturday, the team succumbed to a devastating 4-1 away defeat at River Plate. Following that result, Javier Sanguinetti’s men are now winless in their last eight league games (four draws and four losses). What started in good shape is now an irregular campaign, with 17 points in 13 games. However, La Lepra remain into the Copa Sudamericana zone in the aggregate table. At home, Newell’s haven’t claimed any victories in their last four matches, drawing three and losing one.

Lanus are still struggling in the league. Last Saturday, the team had to settle for a disappointing 1-1 home draw against Independiente after conceding the equaliser in the 83rd minute. Therefore, El Granate’s winless run has been extended to nine league matches (two stalemates and seven defeats). They remain bottom both in the Liga Profesional table (seven points in 13 games) and the 2022 aggregate rankings. On the road, Lanus are on 17 domestic matches without a win, having drawn five and lost 12 since beating Argentinos Juniors 1-0 in October.

Newell’s are not exactly reliable right now but if they are going to win a game again it has to be at home against this Lanus that didn’t win an away game in 10 months.
