Lanus vs Platense
Lanus fans will have felt devastated after the team’s 1-0 away loss to Godoy Cruz at Gimnasia Mendoza last Monday, when they conceded the winner just one minute before the final whistle. Ricardo Zielinski’s men are now on two consecutive defeats, which leaves them on three points in as many matches in the Copa Liga Profesional. As a result, El Granate remain sharing the penultimate spot of the point-average table with Velez Sarsfield, just above Deportivo Riestra. In addition, Lanus lost their last two home matches (to Racing Club and Newell’s Old Boys, both 2-0).
Platense had to fight more than expected last weekend but they finally secured their first 2024 success by beating CA Central Cordoba 1-0 at home thanks to a strike from Gabriel Hachen in the 66th minute. As a result, the team put an end to their five-game winless streak of three draws and two defeats in league action, making it four points in the Copa Liga Profesional group B, which also allows them to escape from the relegation zone in the point-average table. On a sorry note, Platense are on four away games without a win (two stalemates and two losses).
Lanus couldn’t score in the last 2 games since their 2-0 win of the 1st round, Platense scored only once so far in 3 rounds, so I will expect a tight game here between two teams that have been struggling lately.
