Lanus vs Newell’s
Lanus opened up their 2024 campaign with a massive victory, taking all three points in the opener by beating San Lorenzo away from home thanks to a brace from Walter Bou. That win allowed them to break a three-match winless streak of two draws and one defeat in league action, but they remain holding the worst spot the point-average table (alongside Velez Sarsfield and excluding the newly-promoted sides).
Newell’s Old Boys new coach Mauricio Larriera started life at the club with a hard-fought 1-0 away success at CA Central Cordoba thanks to Giovani Chiaverano’s goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time. La Lepra took their first three points in group B and also made it two consecutive victories in league action. In fact, Newell’s succumbed to a single defeat across their last five matches on away turf, winning three and drawing one in that spell.
Walter Bou debuted in Lanus scoring twice in their weekend win against San Lorenzo and earned a place in the starting lineup, Newell’s comes from a late but deserved win also showing an improved attack, so I’ll go here for the over on this very low totals line.
