Instituto vs Godoy Cruz
Instituto succumbed to their first loss in 2024 last Sunday, when they showed their worst performance of the season and ended up losing 2-0 to Independiente at home. That result means La Gloria saw their eight-game unbeaten streak of four victories and four draws in league action coming to an end. However, Diego Dabove’s men remain occupying one of the playoff spots in group A accumulating 11 points. Instituto managed four points from nine available as the hosting side so far, winning one, drawing one and losing one.
Godoy Cruz are clearly the best team in the league at the moment. Last weekend, they showed an enjoyable performance to beat tough rivals Racing Club 2-0 away thanks to a brace from Tomas Badaloni. El Tomba remain as group B leaders on 16 points, producing an almost perfect campaign in the Copa Liga Profesional so far. In fact, Daniel Oldra’s men are unbeaten in their last eight in league action, winning five and drawing three in regular time. On away turf, Godoy Cruz took ten points from the last 12 on offer without even conceding. On Thursday 22, Godoy Cruz lost 1-0 at home to Chile’s CSD Colo Colo in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores’ second round.
After losing at home in the 1st leg of the Copa Libertadores qualifiers and with the 2nd leg at Chile next Thursday, Godoy Cruz is expected to rest most regulars here and even though Instituto has been irregular at home so far this season, this is an opportunity they shouldn’t miss.
