Independiente vs Sarmiento
Independiente continue producing one of the worst campaigns in the club’s history. Last Sunday, the team succumbed to another defeat, losing 2-1 away at Godoy Cruz following a poor performance. El Rojo are now on three league games without a win, drawing one and losing two, and are now one of the teams who would be involved in a playoff to avoid relegation via the aggregate table, sharing the drop spot with Velez Sarsfield, Atletico Tucuman, Huracan, Banfield and Union Santa Fe on 18 points at the moment. On a positive note, Independiente have been confident at home lately: they are unbeaten in the last four matches, with two wins and two draws.
Sarmiento continue increasing their tally to stay in the top flight. Last Friday, the team secured a valuable home point following a scoreless draw against Newell’s Old Boys in an uneventful match. As a result, Israel Damonte’s men made it six league games unbeaten (two victories and four stalemates), without even conceding in the last five to accumulate 25 points in the Liga Profesional, staying away from potential relegation threats at the moment. Furthermore, Sarmiento collected seven points from the last nine on offer on the road as a product of two victories and one draw.
9 of the last 10 Independiente games had at least 2 goals and in the last 5 they scored and conceded at least one, so I think this game should continue this trend considering how desperate they are for wins.
