Independiente vs Huracan
Independiente are clearly involved in the fight to avoid relegation this term. Last time out, the team played one of their worst games in 2023 and succumbed to a heartbreaking 3-0 away defeat at Union Santa Fe. That result represented their third loss across the last five league matches, alongside a single win and one draw in that time. Therefore, El Rojo dropped down to the 23rd spot of the Liga Profesional table on 21 points, only three above the drop spot, shared by Velez Sarsfield and Banfield at the moment. On a positive note, Independiente are now unbeaten in their last five matches at Estadio Libertadores de America, winning three and drawing two.
Huracan continues to find trouble to claim victories in the league. Last time out, the team registered a 1-1 home draw against Newell’s Old Boys after playing against ten men during the whole second half and missing a penalty in the 88th minute. As a result, El Globo extended their winless streak to seven matches in this competition, drawing three and losing four in that spell. That negative run places them in the 25th spot of the Liga Profesional table on 19 points, just one above Velez Sarsfield and Banfield, who share the relegation place. Huracan also are without a win in their last ten domestic matches on the road, with three stalemates and seven defeats. On Wednesday 28, Huracan lost 2-0 away to Paraguay’s Guarani in a Copa Sudamericana group game, being knocked out of the competition. Coach Sebastian Battaglia left the club after that game. Right back Fernando Torrent misses out on Sunday due to a muscle injury. Marcelo Broggi will take over as interim boss on Sunday.
In a game between two teams fighting to avoid relegation, Huracan is clearly at a disadvantage here. Their coach left after only a couple of months, they were eliminated from Copa Sudamericana only a few days ago, and they have a very poor squad so I have to go with the hosts here.
