Independiente vs Godoy Cruz
Thanks to a goal from Alan Sonora in the first half, Independiente managed an important 1-0 away success at Huracan in a hard-fought game last Sunday. The team lost only one of their last four league games, along with two victories and one draw to make it 22 points (trailing leaders by four) and continue fighting for a spot in the 2022 Copa Libertadores (they are trailing three points behind the last qualifying spot). At home, El Rojo won three, drew two and lost one in the Liga Profesional.
Godoy Cruz managed a point through a 1-1 home draw against Sarmiento last weekend, when striker Cristian Colman found the equaliser in the sixth minute of stoppage time. The team remain unbeaten under recently-appointed coach Diego Flores, having secured seven points from nine on offer in the league so far. As a result, El Tomba made it 17 points, which is a decent campaign as the team need to escape from the bottom spots of the relegation table (they are now occupying 21st). On away turf, Godoy Cruz registered two victories and three defeats in the Liga Profesional.
If Independiente wants to keep their championship chances alive, this is a game they definitely need to win.
