Independiente vs Estudiantes
Independiente showed a slight improvement last weekend under interim boss Pedro Monzon, when they secured a valuable scoreless away draw at second-placed San Lorenzo. However, that result also means El Rojo are on eight league games without a win, drawing six and losing two in that spell. Following that streak, they accumulate nine points in as many rounds, leading Colon (who occupy the bottom spot of the Liga Profesional rankings) by just three. Furthermore, El Rojo are yet to win at home this season, having taken two points from 12 on offer as a product of two draws and two losses.
After their heartbreaking defeat in the city derby, Estudiantes took a breather in round nine, when they played their best game of the season to beat Newell’s Old Boys 3-0 at home. In fact, the team registered two victories and a single defeat since coach Eduardo Dominguez’s arrival. Therefore, El Pincha are now on 11 points, escaping from the worst places of the Liga Profesional table. On a sorry note, Estudiantes hold a two-match losing run on away turf in domestic action as they were beaten by Union Santa Fe and Gimnasia LP.
Estudiantes had a hard fought win in Copa Sudamericana on Wednesday at Bolivia and they were coming from a big one last weekend, so even though I can’t trust them because of the tiredness factor, I think we should see at least a couple of goals here.
