Independiente vs Argentinos Jrs
Independiente played one of their worst matches in 2024 last Saturday and succumbed to a devastating 1-0 home defeat against arch-rivals Racing Club in a heated Avellaneda derby. El Rojo saw their three-match unbeaten streak of two victories and one draw in league action coming to an end and dropped down to third spot in group A, having accumulated 13 points in seven Copa Liga Profesional rounds. At home, Independiente won one and lost two this season so far.
Argentinos Juniors are showing their best version lately. On Monday, the team played enjoyable football to beat arch-rivals Platense 3-1 in an entertaining game. That victory means El Bicho became group A leaders on 14 points as Pablo Guede’s men leapfrogged Independiente and River Plate thanks to their two consecutive successes. On a sorry note, Argentinos have been weak on the road lately: they are winless in the last eight as the visiting side, drawing four and losing four since beating Banfield 1-0 in September.
Even if Argentinos has been poor playing away, I have to trust them here as they are coming from a very convincing win in the derby vs Platense and they will visit this Independiente that lost the big Avellaneda derby at home, which should give them even more pressure today playing in front of their fans where they’ve been quite irregular so far this season.
