Independiente Rivadavia – Instituto

Independiente Rivadavia have a mountain to climb in order to stay in the top flight. Last Monday, La Lepra were dominated from beginning to end and lost 2-0 away to Banfield. It was their fifth defeat across the last seven league matches (along with just one win and one draw in that time), which leaves them on 18 points in the Liga Profesional and bottom in the point average table, forced to earn at least 17 more points to avoid relegation. On a positive note, Independiente lost only one of the last five as the hosting side, winning three and drawing one.

Instituto played one of their worst matches in 2024 last Saturday and succumbed to an unexpected 1-0 home defeat to bottom-placed Barracas Central. Following their second consecutive defeat in this competition, La Gloria have been displaced from the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table aven though they accumulated 24 points in the Liga Profesional so far. Furthermore, Instituto lost three of their last five away matches, along with a single victory and one draw. Nicolas Dubersarsky and Fernando Alarcon have both reached the yellow-card limit and are suspended for Friday.

Independiente Rivadavia are desperate for points as they are down in the relegation zone, but they’ve been decent at home and they will face this Instituto that after overperforming for a while are going back to their usual form. They will also miss an important defender like Fernando Alarcon, so I’m going to trust the hosts here.
