Independiente – Atletico Tucuman

Independiente left good impressions in their last league game, beating CA Central Cordoba 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Gabriel Avalos and Santiago Hidalgo last Sunday. El Rojo made it 36 points in the Liga Profesional after losing only two of their last 17 matches in this competition, winning seven and drawing eight in this competition. The team now need only one more point to clinch their ticket to the Copa Sudamericana. In addition, Independiente made it 12 unbeaten at home, winning six and drawing six. Centre back Joaquin Laso returns from suspension.

Atletico Tucuman deflated their performance last Monday, when they registered a disappointing scoreless home stalemate against Newell’s Old Boys in a boring game. Even though El Decano won only one of their last four matches in this competition (along with one draw and two defeats), they produced an excellent Liga Profesional campaign, accumulating 37 points to occupy seventh spot in the respective table. However, they are out of any fight for a continental ticket via the aggregate rankings. On away turf, Atletico are on seven matches without a win, drawing two and losing five in that spell.

Independiente look motivated to finish the season on a good run, they’ve been solid lately and I expect them to win their last home game of the year.
