Huracan – Banfield

Huracan seem to be returning to life. In the Liga Profesional round 27, El Globo secured a massive 1-0 home success over Velez Sarsfield to make it two consecutive victories in this competition. Thanks to that mini streak, the side made it 25 points this season, which means they are now level with Colon in the aggregate table, sharing the relegation spot at the moment. That triumph also put an end to a five-game winless streak of two stalemates and three defeats at Estadio Tomas Adolfo Duco in domestic action. Rodrigo Echeverria (from Everton, Chile) and Hector Fertoli (Racing Club) are the most noteworthy new faces at the club. Lucas Merolla (who joined Mazatlan FC, Mexico) is the biggest loss in the transfer window.

Banfield wrapped up their Liga Profesional campaign with an interesting streak of six matches unbeaten (three victories and three draws), closed through a scoreless away stalemate at Sarmiento. Thanks to that run, El Taladro made it 30 points, escaping from the relegation spot in the aggregate table by five. On a sorry note, Julio Falcioni’s men claimed a single victory across their last nine away matches, drawing four and losing four. Banfield welcome back Juan Pablo Alvarez, who returns from Colon, in a total of four new faces. During the break, Banfield lost 1-0 to second-tier side Estudiantes Rio Cuarto in the Copa Argentina second round and drew 1-1 against Platense at home in a friendly game.

These two will be fighting to avoid relegation in the last 14 games of this season so I expect that one goal should open things up, and Huracan at home won’t settle with a draw.
