Godoy Cruz vs Talleres

Godoy Cruz succumbed to a heavy blow last Wednesday, when they suffered a heartbreaking 4-1 away loss to Boca Juniors after taking the first lead. That result put an end to their six-match unbeaten streak of two victories and four stalemates in league action and also displaced them from the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the aggregate table (now trailing fourth-placed Talleres by goal difference) after accumulating 28 points in 21 Liga Profesional rounds. Godoy Cruz haven’t lost any of their last ten at home, winning four and drawing six. Defensive midfielder Bruno Leyes reached the yellow-card limit and is suspended for Sunday.

Talleres played one of their worst matches this season last Thursday, when they suffered an unexpected 2-1 home defeat to Lanus. Following that result, La T made it five league matches without a win (three stalemates and two losses). In the context of a very good campaign, they are now going through a slump that left them almost without chances of fighting for the league title: Alexander Medina’s men remain on 33 points, trailing leaders Velez Sarsfield by nine. However, they also remain occupying one of the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the aggregate table. On away turf, Talleres won only one of the last eight in domestic action, drawing four and losing three. Winger Valentin Depietri succumbed to a muscle injury and will miss out on Sunday.

Talleres has been nothing but disappointing lately, especially when playing away and because of these their chances of fighting for the championship are pretty much gone but both have a big motivation ahead: they are in 4th and 5th place of the annual table with probably the top 4 getting a Copa Libertadores 2025 spot, so this is a game they don’t want to lose for sure. The hosts are strong at their stadium as usual and I can’t consider them almost as underdogs in this context so they are worth a bet.
