Godoy Cruz vs Newell’s
Godoy Cruz played enjoyable football last Sunday to thrash Independiente 4-1 away. As a result, the team made it four league games unbeaten under recently-appointed coach Diego Flores, winning three and drawing one. As a result of this positive run, El Tomba moved up from the 26th to the 21st spot of the relegation table, accumulating 20 points in the Liga Profesional. At home, they managed 11 of those points, having won three, drawn two and lost two.
After their remarkable win at Lanus, Newell’s Old Boys returned to losing ways last Monday, when they were beaten by Huracan 1-0 at home in an intense game. The team continue producing an irregular campaign in the Liga Profesional, accumulating 15 points and having won only one of the last eight games (along with two draws and five defeats). On away turf, they registered one victory, two stalemates and three losses so far. Centre back Facundo Mansilla remains doubtful after succumbing to appendicitis shortly before the last game. Julian Fernandez and Pablo Perez will miss one more game injured.
Godoy Cruz is on an amazing run since the coach change, Newell’s continues being extremely irregular and will have some important missings, so I have to go with the hosts here.
