Godoy Cruz vs Independiente
Godoy Cruz put up a good fight on their visit to Newell’s Old Boys last Sunday, but they couldn’t avoid a 2-0 away defeat in a hard-fought match. That result put an end to their eight-match unbeaten streak of three wins and five draws and keeps them on 26 points, dropping Daniel Oldra’s men out of the Copa Sudamericana places in the aggregate table as they occupy 11th place, trailing their last opponents by goal difference. However, Godoy Cruz have been strong as hosts lately: they are on six games unbeaten, winning three and drawing three.
Independiente had to settle for a disappointing 1-1 home stalemate against Lanus in an uneventful match last weekend, when they conceded the equaliser in the 93rd minute. Even though El Rojo lost only one of their last five league games (along with two victories and two draws), they remain occupying one of the lowest spots in the league table, accumulating 18 points and leading Union Santa Fe (occupying the only relegation place in the aggregate rankings) by three. Furthermore, Independiente are winless in their last eight away matches, with five draws and three losses since beating Talleres 1-0 in the season opener.
I’m going to trust the solid Godoy Cruz here against this very poor and irregular Independiente who has been terrible as a visitor.
