Godoy Cruz vs Estudiantes

 

Godoy Cruz’s three-match unbeaten streak of two victories and one draw in the Copa Liga Profesional came to an end last time out, when they lost 2-1 away at Talleres in a hard-fought game. That defeat is a heavy blow for them as the team dropped down to the relegation zone, having accumulated eight points in seven matches this season. El Tomba have been struggling at home lately, not winning any of their last six matches: they drew three and lost three since beating Banfield 2-1 in October.

Estudiantes fans should have felt gutted following their 1-1 away draw in the city derby at Gimnasia LP after conceding the equaliser in the 95th minute. As a result, El Pincha are now on three league games without a win (two stalemates and one loss). However, they remain as one of the group B leaders on 14 points (alongside Boca Juniors).

Estudiantes won’t have Mauro Boselli and Leandro Diaz, their top two strikers, and they are only a few days away from playing in the Copa Libertadores groups stage, so even if Godoy Cruz is not exactly a reliable team, I expect them to take something from this game at home.
