Godoy Cruz vs Banfield
After three victories and four draws in the league, Godoy Cruz finally succumbed to their first defeat under coach Diego Flores: the team put up a good fight at Boca Juniors last Wednesday, but they ended up losing 2-1. As a result, El Tomba remain on 23 points in 17 rounds, which is a decent campaign, but it keeps them in the 23rd spot of the point-average rankings. They collected 13 points playing as the home side as a product of three wins, four draws (including the last three) and two losses. Nicolas Sanchez aside due to a knee problem, the rest of the squad are fully fit for Sunday.
Banfield extended their winless streak to four matches (two draws and two defeats) last Wednesday, when they lost 4-1 at home to Huracan after producing a poor performance. In fact, the team are performing a bad campaign in general terms, accumulating only 15 points in 17 matches, which places them in the 24th spot of the league table. As a result, coach Javier Sanguinetti left the club in agreement with the board. Furthermore, El Taladro are on seven away matches without a win, having drawn six and lost one since beating Union Santa Fe in round three. Banfield will have Hugo Donato as interim boss on Sunday after Javier Sanguinetti’s departure.
Godoy Cruz is definitely more confident and in much better form than this Banfield that suffered a big defeat midweek and will have an interim coach.
