Godoy Cruz vs Banfield
Godoy Cruz put up a good fight on their visit to San Lorenzo last time out, but they wasted several goalscoring opportunities and ended up losing 1-0. Having claimed only one success in their last four league matches (one draw and two defeats), El Tomba produced an irregular campaign so far, accumulating 15 points (they are just above Patronato and level with three other teams in the points average table). Sebastian Mendez’s men registered two victories and three defeats in their home matches this term.
Banfield don’t want to give up on their struggle to advance to the league playoffs. Last Sunday, the team had enough to beat River Plate 1-0 at home thanks to a goal from Juan Alvarez in the second half. Therefore, they broke a five-match winless streak of three draws and two defeats in league action to make it 17 points in group A, one behind fourth-placed River Plate: they need to beat Godoy Cruz and wait for three more results.
Last round and Banfield must win and wait for Sunday’s results, so I expect this to be an open game since draw or lose is the same thing for them.
