Godoy Cruz – Sarmiento

Godoy Cruz became the first team to clinch a ticket to the Copa Liga Profesional playoffs after beating Platense 2-1 away, with Mariano Santiago netting the winner in the second minute of stoppage time. Having lost only one of their last four league matches (along with two victories and one draw), El Tomba remain as group B leaders on 26 points, three above second-placed Lanus. Godoy Cruz managed 11 of those points as the hosting side as a product of three victories, two draws and one defeat. All regulars are at Daniel Oldra’s disposal to host Sarmiento on Monday.

Sarmiento are facing trouble in the Copa Liga Profesional at the moment. In round 12, the team lacked effectiveness up front and succumbed to an unlucky 1-0 home defeat to Newell’s Old Boys. El Verde made it two consecutive losses without even scoring in this competition and they remain on nine points, leading bottom-placed Tigre in the aggregate table by just four so far. Sarmiento claimed a single victory in their last seven away matches, drawing two and losing four. Striker Ivan Morales is finally expected to be available after missing a couple of games due to a muscle problem.

Godoy Cruz has secured a place in the playoffs so from now on they need to get ready for the next stage. With a win here they would secure the 1st place of the group and they should be able to get it against this very poor Sarmiento that will have important missings like defender Franco Paredes, veteran striker Lisandro Lopez and midfielders Mauri and Arismendi.
