Godoy Cruz – Rosario Central
Godoy Cruz, one of the best teams in the first tournament of the season, are now finding trouble to handle absences. Last time out, the team had to settle for a 1-1 away stalemate at Estudiantes after conceding the equaliser in the 86th minute. As a result, El Tomba made it two points in the Liga Profesional (with one match in hand) and five league games without a win, drawing two and losing three, which keeps them out of the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the aggregate table. Godoy Cruz lost 1-0 to Barracas Central in their last home match after a streak of two victories and one draw at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, where they will host this game behind closed doors. Tomas Conechny is about to join Spanish outfit Deportivo Alaves.
Rosario Central legend Marco Ruben started his fifth spell at the club with a late strike to give his team a point following a 1-1 home stalemate against Lanus in a hard-fought game in MD4. El Canalla are now accumulating five points in four Liga Profesional rounds, which however places them in 21st spot of the aggregate table after winning only one of the last eight in league action (three draws and four losses). On a positive note, Central won 2-0 at Deportivo Riestra in their last away league game to stop a five-match losing streak as the visiting side in domestic action. Agustin Sandez and Carlos Quintana are available on Wednesday after overcoming their injuries.
After being deducted 3 points and given a 2 match behind closed doors ban, Godoy Cruz are now last with -1 points and not playing at all like they did the previous semester and that’s because they lost their best two players, Hernan Lopez and Tomas Conechny. Rosario Central is not playing well either but they should be improved in attack with Marco Ruben and Enzo Copetti that arrived a couple of weeks ago and I’ll trust them not to lose here.
