Gimnasia vs Newell’s
Gimnasia LP secured a valuable point on their visit to Independiente last Monday, when they settled for a 1-1 away draw. El Lobo succumbed to a single defeat in their last five league matches, winning two and drawing two, to make it 18 points in the Liga Profesional. On a sorry note, the team dropped down to the 20th spot in the relegation table (level with Huracan and above other five teams). Gimnasia lost only one of their eight home matches this season, winning three and drawing four.
Newell’s Old Boys suffered their sixth defeat across the last ten league games (along with a single win and three draws) last time out, when they lost 2-1 to Velez Sarsfield at home. The team continue performing a poor campaign, having earned 16 points in 15 games (and only one of those was grabbed in the last three rounds). On the road, La Lepra managed a single victory so far (at Lanus 2-1 in round 12), with the other games in this tournament ending in three draws and three defeats.
Newell’s has conceded at least once in their last 10 league games but also scored in 8 of them, and I think this trend will continue this week against a Gimnasia that has scored in 3 of their last 4 games.
